Following the preparation advice before an operation will allow you to recover quicker and enjoy a safe surgical experience. You will have been told which medicines to stop or continue taking. Some blood thinning medicines such as aspirin need to be stopped in advance of an operation for example. In addition you will be advised when to stop eating and drinking before an anaesthetic. You can eat and drink normally before a local anaesthetic procedure. Various herbal remedies and supplements should be avoided as some can affect bleeding. Alcohol should be avoided before an operation.
If your procedure requires that you stay in hospital you should bring your medications and normal toiletries with you.
If you are unwell immediately prior to your surgery please contact Mr Cawrse’s secretary as some treatment may be required before your operation.
