Consultant Plastic Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgeon
Mr Nick Cawrse is a highly trained, committed and motivated surgeon who prides himself on providing a high standard of care with the safety of his patients the priority. He has an open and honest approach to each of his patients. This fosters a trusting relationship where confidence in your surgeon is key and ensures his patients are comfortable and satisfied with their decision following any consultation or procedure.
Mr Cawrse is Head of Department for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital where he has worked as a consultant since 2010. He specialises in breast reconstruction, skin cancer (including sentinel node biopsy) and microsurgery. This appointment involves additional clinics at Sherborne and Yeovil Hospitals.
He was educated in Middlesex before training in medicine at Newcastle University having previously secured a pure sciences degree at Nottingham University. He qualified as a doctor in 1996 followed by anatomy tutor and emergency department work at the University of Bristol and Bristol Royal Infirmary respectively. Surgical training at Frenchay Hospital, Bristol followed with membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England awarded in 2000.
Plastic surgery training commenced in 2000 gaining an extensive experience in all areas of plastic surgery at units in Bristol, Exeter and Perth, Western Australia. He passed the Intercollegiate Examination in Plastic Surgery- FRCS(Plast)- in 2008 and awarded Certificate of Completion of Training in 2010.
He trained in cosmetic surgery as an aesthetic fellow in Bristol, Perth, Western Australia (The Mount Hospital, St John of God, Subiaco) and at the prestigious McIndoe Surgical Centre, East Grinstead.
In addition to training future plastic surgeons, Mr Cawrse works closely with his surgical colleagues to improve and develop the breast reconstruction service and chairs an Enhanced Recovery team for this patient group. He is departmental lead and has published widely.
Mr Cawrse is a full member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) and is listed on the General Medical Council Specialist Register for plastic surgery.
Outside work he spends as much of his time as he can with his wife and young family. He maintains his fitness by cycling, running and triathlon completing various events as a motivation to raise funds for such charities as:
- SCaRF (Skin Cancer Research Fund) in Bristol
- Interface Uganda
- Force Cancer Charity
- Self Unlimited (supporting adults with learning difficulties)
