Upper arm lift (brachioplasty)

This procedure reduces the skin excess from the upper arm (‘bingo wings’) and tightens the skin producing an improved contour. Often this is performed at the same time as other body contouring operations such as breast reduction, abdominoplasty or liposuction.

This skin excess commonly develops after weight loss. The surgery takes 1-2 hours under general anaesthetic and an overnight hospital stay. The scar runs from near the elbow to the armpit. Often surgical drains are placed during the surgery that are removed the following day. The wounds should heal in 10-14 days though supportive tapes should be used for 4 weeks. Physical activity should be avoided for 6 weeks.
