Despite considerable effort in adopting a healthy lifestyle including exercise and a balanced diet certain areas of fat can remain resistant to change. These areas can be reduced using very small incisions with liposuction and result in an improved contour. A tube is placed into the fat which then disrupts and removes this fat. Most areas can be addressed though the abdomen, waist, hips and thighs are frequently affected.
The procedure is performed under general anaesthetic and frequently you will go home the same day. How long the surgery lasts is dependent on how many areas are addressed and how much fat is removed; typically this takes 1-2 hours. Bruising often develops after the surgery and this is not unexpected. A supportive garment is worn for 4-6 weeks afterwards. Any wounds should be healed by 2 weeks and a return to work by 2 weeks depending on the extent of the surgery. Loose skin seen once fat is removed usually tightens over 6-12 weeks.
